PTI workers' protest in Bani Gala over award of tickets continues on third day

PTI workers' protest in Bani Gala over award of tickets
Irate activists of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) continued to protest the distribution of party tickets outside chairman Imran Khan’s Banigala residence for third day (Wednesday).

Dozens of workers from various constituencies have gathered outside Khan’s residence, demanding party tickets for their groups. Activists from Multan’s NA-154 constituency are demanding not to allot the ticket to Sikander Bosin. Workers from NA-51 FATA are also speaking against the award of tickets.

The protesters have urged Khan to review the distribution of tickets to the candidates. They have asked to provide them to ideological workers instead of para-shooters. Earlier, the party delayed the announcement of candidates for remaining constituencies for 72 hours.

A meeting of the party’s parliamentary board was also held on Tuesday. The members are scheduled to announce the new candidates after three days. The scrutiny process of candidates is also likely to continue for the next two days in the controversial constituencies of Islamabad, Sindh, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

PML-N leaders Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Miftah Ismail's names placed on ECL

The interior ministry on Friday placed the names of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Miftah Ismail on the Exit Control List. According to the interior ministry, Abbasi and Ismail’s names were placed on the no-fly list on the recommendation of the National Accountability Bureau. Imran-ul-Haq, Uzma Adil Khan, Mubeen Saulat, Shahid Islamuddin and Amir Naseem’s names were also placed on the ECL. Abbasi is accused of illegally awarding a 15-year contract for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal when he was the petroleum minister in former prime minister Nawaz Sharif's cabinet. The case was closed by NAB in 2016 but was reopened in 2018. Ismail is also under investigation in connection with the LNG corruption case. The federal cabinet reportedly gave a go-ahead to place Abbasi, along with others, on the ECL in a meeting earlier this month.

Venezuela's Guaido calls for 'largest march in history' in uprising effort

Venezuelans were expected to take to the streets on Wednesday for what opposition leader Juan Guaido pledged would be the “largest march” in the country’s history, a day after he called for the military to oust President Nicolas Maduro. In his boldest effort yet to gain the support of the armed forces, Guaido appeared early Tuesday morning outside a Caracas air force base with dozens of National Guard members. That triggered a day of violent protests, leaving more than 100 injured but without any concrete signs of defection from the armed forces leadership. “We know that Maduro does not have the backing or the respect of the armed forces,” Guaido said in a video message posted to his social media accounts on Tuesday evening. “We have seen that protest yields results. We should keep up the pressure.” Whether the protest turnout meets those lofty hopes will provide a key test for Guaido, as some supporters grow frustrated that Maduro remains in office more than three months after Gu
