President Arif Alvi signs ordinance of Tax Amnesty Scheme

President Arif Alvi, on Wednesday, signed the 2019 ordinance of Tax Amnesty Scheme related to disclosing assets.

Following the signature of the president, the scheme will come into effect across the country.

The scheme will be applicable on the undeclared assets acquired until June 30, 2018.

A day earlier, the federal government approved the tax amnesty scheme during a cabinet session held under the chair of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Sources said that the scheme will be applicable to benami bank accounts, whereas, it would be effective for the persons whose cases are pending in the courts.

The individuals, who took charge of government offices after 2000 will not be benefited with the amnesty scheme.

Suggestions were made during the cabinet meeting to set 4 per cent taxation from the persons who declare their properties till December 31 and 2 per cent for assets’ declaration till September 30, sources said.

Moreover, 6 per cent tax will be collected on the declaration of foreign assets and 4 per cent taxation on declaring assets inside the country.

Five per cent tax will be implemented on the declaration of foreign assets till June 30 while it would be increased to 20 per cent till December 31, sources added.

PML-N leaders Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Miftah Ismail's names placed on ECL

The interior ministry on Friday placed the names of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Miftah Ismail on the Exit Control List. According to the interior ministry, Abbasi and Ismail’s names were placed on the no-fly list on the recommendation of the National Accountability Bureau. Imran-ul-Haq, Uzma Adil Khan, Mubeen Saulat, Shahid Islamuddin and Amir Naseem’s names were also placed on the ECL. Abbasi is accused of illegally awarding a 15-year contract for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal when he was the petroleum minister in former prime minister Nawaz Sharif's cabinet. The case was closed by NAB in 2016 but was reopened in 2018. Ismail is also under investigation in connection with the LNG corruption case. The federal cabinet reportedly gave a go-ahead to place Abbasi, along with others, on the ECL in a meeting earlier this month.

PTI workers' protest in Bani Gala over award of tickets continues on third day

Irate activists of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) continued to protest the distribution of party tickets outside chairman Imran Khan’s Banigala residence for third day (Wednesday). Dozens of workers from various constituencies have gathered outside Khan’s residence, demanding party tickets for their groups.
